No matter the time of year, there is no shortage of great events in
Prince Edward County.
Spring, summer, fall or winter.
Shoulder season or prime tourist season, businesses and organizations
in the island community know how to keep busy and create all sorts of
opportunities to make memorable outings.
In early spring, Prince Edward County Maple Syrup producers combine to
offer “Maple in the County,” a weekend celebration of all things maple.
Try a traditional pancake breakfast inside a local sap shanty with the freshest
possible maple syrup, take guided tours of maple syrup operations and check
out a maple themed street festival in downtown Picton-Maple in the County is
a hit with visitors from all over Ontario.
In early May it’s madness around Picton Harbour as the Trenton Kiwanis
Walleye World fishing derby draws anglers from all over North America to
try and reel in the big one. Over $100,000 in prizes are available in the live
release walleye and pike tournament.
In the heat of the summer, the Prince Edward County Arts Council host the
annual Jazz Festival, the Art in the County juried show and sale and CLIC,
the Southeastern Ontario Juried Photography Show and sale.
In September, the granddaddy of the all the events, the Picton Fair is held at
the Prince Edward County Fairgrounds. Taking place the weekend after Labour Day,
the fair is a great exhibition of Prince Edward County flavour and fun. Tractor pulls,
a smash up car derby, a bright and colourful midway and agricultural exhibitions
are just some of the highlights of one of Ontario’s oldest continuing running fairs.
In early October, the Prince Edward County Marathon attracts runners from near
and far thanks to its easy running course and its often cool conditions.
Later that month, all the best culinary treats Prince Edward County has to offer
are available at Taste! A Celebration of County Cuisine is held at the historic and
regal Crystal Palace.
